The 2005 V6 wheels will fit without issues save the one you mentioned about the dust cap.Originally posted by Mustangdanimal View PostWhat would it take to mount the 2005, V6, Eleanor style wheel on the SVO? I imagine the front hub is the issue. Grease bearing cover sticking out too far? What about hub size? Any issues at all with the rear?Mike S

Most Fox-4/SN95 wheels will have too little offset for our cars, as noted above. The stock front rotors/spindles usually run into clearance issues with center caps, but can be remedied with some creative work. I ran the 96 Cobra wheels, which had a 30mm offset and stuck out just ever so much too far. I rolled my rear fender lips to avoid sharp edged contact on larger bumps as well with that setup. For reference, 245/50's on the stock rims will make contact with non-rolled rear fender lips too. My current TSW wheels with a 35mm offset only rub with passengers in the rear seat and a hefty dip in the road. You might be able to go as high as a 40mm offset with an 8" wide rim to tuck them in even further, but would have to confirm strut clearance up front. In any case, there are more options out there for us with the 05-up Mustangs having a near identical offset as our cars, but obviously they can also take much larger diameter and wider wheels as well.Ted

I'm looking at these wheels for my car. I know traditionally we have a difficult time fitting wheels on the front of stock SVOs. This is a 17x9 with a 22mm offset. I found a nice set used... but I'm concerned a 22mm offset will stick out too much in the front and may rub when I turn. Another option is the same wheel with a 35mm offet.. does anyone here have experience with a 17x9/22mm offset wheel on a stock SVO?

I am pretty sure those 22mm wheels will have various issues with rubbing, both on the fender and the front cover return flange in front. The '96 Cobra wheels I ran, which were 17x8" 30mm offset would rub the front cover lower screw head when turning, so I had to change those to button head screws to clear. A 17x9" 22mm would push the outside flange of the wheel out just over 3/4" beyond what I had with the Cobra wheels, which is why I could see rubbing issues top/front and likely inside at certain points in turning and suspension travel.
The move to my current 17x8" 35mm rims from the Cobras made the fit much better, IMHO. I had rolled my rear quarter lips, since even 245/50R16's on stock rims rubbed, but my current setup doesn't rub the rolled lips at all. I have a feeling those 17x9" 22mm rims would have the rear fender lips hitting the outer tread band.
Your best bet would be the 17x9" 35mm rims with no more than a 245 section width on the tire...if that is an option, since you noted you found the 22mm versions used. Personally...I would pass on them unless you can do a test fit to confirm clearances. HTH.Ted

Thank you for the input. Your point about your cobra wheels and your rubbing on that bolt is a good one. 22mm will certainly stick out too much if yours rubbed slightly on a 30mm offest. I will look deeper into the 35mm offset and 245's all around.Originally posted by svono50 View PostI am pretty sure those 22mm wheels will have various issues with rubbing, both on the fender and the front cover return flange in front. Even with the 1" additional width (i.e.- 1/2" per side) on a 17x9" rim, the tire centerline and technically the tread should remain the same as on a 17x8" with the same offset. The only impact will be on the angle of the sidewalls to the rim lip. That is an advantage in talking about offsets vs backspacing when comparing rims. Good luck with your search.Ted

OK first post, thanks in advance.
recently aquired a 86 SVO that needed a light resto. I read everything I can find on wheel fit and think I understand. Any reason this wont work?6.27 backspaceKonig HG8751445G 17x8 5X114.3 +45 73.1 center bore

I think those may have too much offset to actually fit on the car. The center bore should be fine and most aftermarket rims use a centering ring, so all you need is a center bore larger than the OEM. I am using some swag numbers, but a 45mm offset will put the inner lip of the rim just over 1" inboard from the stock wheels, so the outer surface of the wheel would be just slightly inboard from the stock wheels. Not sure about quad shock clearance in back and strut/sway bar clearance up front?
I think you would need a 5-10mm spacer to run those rims, but that is just my estimate based on the fact I have 17x8" rims w/35mm offset on my 86.
You would certainly need to do a test fit before mounting tires on them. Looks like they offer up a 35mm offset version as well, but the 45mm offset would let you 'fine tune' the fit to the body. HTH.Ted
