actually, you need to drill 6-8 holes in the rear subframe for the rear bracket to mount onto.

This is what my buddy and I put in his ’66 coupe. We CADed it up and cut it out of chrome-moly, after fixing the suspension geometries. Personally the stock IRS is heavy and bulky.

I have a solid with a three link. It works real well.

very interesting- any pics/kit in the works?

yes, the stock IRS is not the best- it was designed to fit in a previously existing chassis, which causes all kinds of problems.
IMHO, they did the best they could do for a bolt in setup.

Yes. Your right. With a trained eye you can see we designed around those constraints. It is designed well and works better than any cobra. No kit in future. Just wanted to watch the head scratching when people try to figure out how 18” cobra R’s fit on a ’66 coupe with no flairs and an IRS.

So what is the weight difference btw an IRS and a 7,5 or a 8.8? I thought about this on my GT but it seems to be a bit wider than I wanted, how is the width of the IRS compared to the SVO?

width is the same -- weight is about 80 # more

              But the weight is un-sprung

So just order the Fox aluminum driveline?

I have a complete 2003 Cobra suspension/brakes even front control arms all sitting in my garage just waiting. I need to get off my arse and get it all put in.

Here ya go. A true road warrior!

The "We" above is so much me!? But I am envious that he's doing such a good job on this since I last saw it. This makes my SVO welding projects look like chicken s***. I once was proud with my in floor 2"X3" subframe connectors etc but, not so much anymore.

We’re both going to do our cages here shortly. I’m excited.

Paul, The latest Gen of the IRS.

Pat, There’s no doubt he and I are junkies. This Friday I am going to pick up our exhaust bends for the Mk II headers were making. I think I posted the prototype. I’m going to be a TIG’n fool for the next few months.

I got a 66 fastback that would just LOVE to have that up under the rear. I got a narrowed 9", 28 spline, 355 posi, with discs, 5 leaf mid eye springs, Konis, rear sway bar, and under ride bars. All brand new / 0 miles stuff. Wanna trade? What shocks work with this set up? Coil overs I would assume?

WOW...talk about an awesome welding project! Congrats on a job weld done!

Maybe it's the picture but the mounting points for the A-arms seem kinda thin, at least for those beefy tubular A-arms.

I've got a book that has photo's of a prototype IRS system in a 65 Mustang. Ford were apprently considering it for the GT Fastback. It even had rear discs!!!!! Would've been awesome!!!!

BTW, it's called "Mustang, the original muscle car" pg. 41
