Sweet Tom, looking good!!!! You have a month to get it ready for the BBQ and you can't use travel distance as an excuse!!!! We MUST beat the Capri's!!!!
Cranked car after it got back from paint.............. It now has a serious Knock. Frack!
I referbished the sunroof, stripped, painted, installed new felt seal, Looks brand new, only one problem, need to get a new set of tangs for the front. Both have rusted and they are no longer available at the dealer. (the flexable steel "L" shaped clips that hold the sunroof into the slots in front)
Does anyone know where to get these, or have a set for sale?
This weekend we installed enough stuff to get it road legal. It drove awesome tonight, the only issue, when I pulled out of the parking lot uh..... the brand newly overhaulled turbo decided to show up. Made me get sideways.... BUT now that I'm expecting it, that wont happen again. (At least by surprise)
Tomorrow it goes back to the shop for color sand and buff. When it gets back the rest of the interior and exterior trim go back on.
The tail lensens are from an 89 LX because i dont want to install new ones before a sanding and buffing session. The WHeels and tires are getting replaced as well, i bought four newly referbished wheels. That means that my old set, dirty not damaged may be up for sale.
The door handles, door locks, dew wipes, mirrors, cowl trim, all are post buff installations. The badging is still up in the air, i bought the plastic chrome SVO emblems, but may not use them....Still thinkin....
The bad news...I'm eleventy hundred american dollars into it so far, and still have at least that much left to go.... I really, really, really, reccommend just buying a good low mile one, unless you just love f'ing with the process, like me.
Looks great and that is a color I always admired!! While there may always be some little surprises, just remember one simple rule: Keep the shiny side up!!
The lesson is that you get what you pay for, I knew that, but only had so much to spend.
The Buffing is good, however it still has numerous sand marks, looks like they used a grit that was too rough. I dont know what my options are, not legally, but what can be done product or process wise. I hope to get a profesional opinion at the four eyed pride picknick.
Very nice! Congrats on getting back and together. As for scratches - a professional detailer should be able to buff those out. Yes, you could do it yourself ... but I dont recommend an adventure in experimenting on new paint.
Painted trim, bumpers, wipers, cowl, antenna, mirrors, reassembled doors, installed new window track felts, new dew wipes, and decided at least in the short term to leave the painted door handles, and the newly painted black locks inplace. I have the stainless ones on the shelf ready to go, but have not committed to the change over to silver. Painted the inside of the scoop, still need to do the spats, hatch lock, and door trim.
