    • It's changed hands a few times and sat alot. I'm redoing everything. I got the car around June and it's been non stop ever since. Since it's a 7B and not many I am doing so much.

      • Pictures of my current sending unit

Here are the pictures of my current one. It's still works fine I just figured since everything is down might as well do it all. It looks like the one 50 Resto has labled for 87-97.

        • there is no visible difference between the 87-97 senders but the problem is they read backwards from the ones in the earlier cars. so full tank will show empty, and empty will show full on the SVO gauge. If the SVO sender is working, I'd keep it.

          • Thanks Eric, I had a feeling there would be a difference. I have a feeling this will be a hard item to find. I guess I'll clean it up and use it. Thanks again !

            • Rich, that sending unit is unique to the 79-86 mustangs and is obsolete. I don't know that anyone is reproducing them, but I've seen articles where people have rebuilt them. Once in a while you'll find an NOS one on ebay. I have a later-style sender hooked to an early gauge in the Trash car. It reads backwards, and I believe ohms are different, so it doesn't read at the same pace. As soon as the needle lifts from full, I know I need to find a gas station soon.

Maybe someone here has one they can help you out with...

              • Hi Roger, I've been surfing this evening and made that discovery. I guess the good news is mine is working fine. I'm going to clean it up and reuse it. I hope I can get everything done tomorrow. I need to finish some patching in the spare tire well and one small one in the floor pan. Other than that the cars pretty solid. I'm still going to keep my eyes open for a NOS.

Here is an article on FEP that shows how to rebuild an EFI sender for 83-86 Mustangs, SVO's included.....

                  • That was a great article . I decided to just clean mine up and use it. If it ever fails the procedure is simple and well documented. Thanks for posting. I finally finished reinstalling the fuel tank. I also made up new fuel lines with all the correct fuel injection fittings. That full Dorman kit was worth the investment. I also replaced every seal in the new tank and all the fuel filler seals.

I also decided to install a Ford Racing Aluminum drive shaft. I thought my damper was causing the vibration issue. When I removed the original shaft it turns out the u joints were shot. I'll install new joints and keep it as a spare. The Aluminum one is awesome! I also ordered a new set of Tires. The Gooyear LS tires have turned to stone and have flat spots from sitting . I can hear them going wump wump wump and causing a low vibration. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

That's the first thing I'm doing after getting our 86 back to running again. It's got very low-mileage Kuhmos on it, but one of our last autocross events had a mid-3rd-gear finish that pointed the car directly at the timing truck. My wife finished the course very well (well into 3rd gear) and ended up locking the front wheels trying to stop the car before loading it up into the cab of the truck.

The flat spots are so bad, they can stop the car rolling if you're pushing it around in the shop. And it's super-annoying when driving.

Hi everyone, I am having a head overhauled and wanted to get a new set of valve springs. My parts store is having trouble finding them. Does anyone have a source for any? Thanks !
