  • By the way. Are the door handles and locks also gray ?

    • The locks are kind of a black chrome, not painted. As for the handles, I am not sure. I had to replace mine with 87-93 units to match the 87-93 doors I put on, so I left them the OEM black color, which worked fine with my black car. My guess would be they should be the same gray as the trim, but I am sure someone will chime in with factory units to compare.

      • The door handles on my 86 are black, but I have no idea if they are original.

Thanks guys, I'm going to have the shop keep everything the same trim color. I think it will look just fine and be consistent.

          • I rummaged through my pics from previous Reunions and I would have to say they are generally same color as the trim, so your plan sounds good.

Thanks pal. It's been a long road but worth every bit.

                • Rich,
I just wanted to show you this thread that was listed in the "most frequently asked questions". It covers the colors that are correct.

I think we're getting close. I'm hoping a couple weeks. I dropped off a set of taillights I restored. He needs to paint all the moldings trims and install them. The spats, gas door, and something else minor needs painting. I still need to finish restoring 1 fog light. Waiting on a lens. I'm still amazed how many window trim moldings there are. Funny how they don't look like that many on the car. Then you start glass beading them, then you realize there's quite a pile. I was able to put together a set of correct door moldings also. I need to order my tires for the restored wheels. I admit I'm ready to get it home. Stay tuned ....

                        • Getting down to the last few pieces now . I goofed and forgot the tell the shop the drip rail is body color. They're correcting it. :thumb" I'm also working on a correctly painted set of taillights. I used this set for now. (Yes I know the middle strip covered the marker light they still pretty good)

                          • I have always been a huge fan of the 7B cars.

Your project is turning out really great. Who is the body shop doing the work for you?

Thanks pal, The shop I have been using is Cantrell's Autobody in Hayesville, NC. They are a collision shop that does outstanding work. They only take on full restorations like this one at a time and on a very limited basis. Projects like this are done as a buffer for slack time between and during collision work. The benefit can be a cost savings I negotiated. I've been requested not to disclosed what I spent as a cash deal. However, I was told if I wanted this done as a fully dedicated job the cost would have been approximately 10K for all the paint and body work. I did have to wait almost a year before he took mine in. The aren't many shops that will take projects like this because the money is really made on insurance collision jobs.
